Construction Cost Estimating

How to estimate various reinforced concrete works

Quantification of various reinforced concrete works like foundation, columns, beams, slabs pedestal are necessary for finding out the real construction cost and payment to the contractor. Get some guidance for This article provides guidelines for the estimation of different reinforced concrete works together with formulas.

How to estimate Reinforced Concrete Works:

1. The Quantities are rounded off to the closest two decimals.
2. Concrete in Structural members, like columns, Beams and slabs should be estimated individually.
3. No Deductions are required for the following:
? Opening up to 0.1 m2
? Volume consumed by reinforcement.
? Volume consumed by pipes, conduits, sheathing, etc not surpassing 100cm2 each in cross-section.
? Moulds, drips moulding, chamfers, splays rounded or covered angles, beds, grooves and rebates up to 10 cm in girth.

Estimation of Concrete in Footings:

Volume of concrete = L x B x D for Rectangular and Square footing. For Trapezoidal Footing, Volume of Concrete is measured in two parts. Bottom Rectangular part as well as Trapezoidal volume are estimated individually.

Rectangular Volume = L x B x D
Trapezoidal Volume V= H/3 (A1 + A2 + SQRT(A1 + A2) )
Where A1 and A2 denote the area of top and bottom rectangles, H stands for depth of footing.
Total Volume = Rectangular Volume + Trapezoidal Volume
Where V= Volume; h= height;

How to estimate RCC Columns: Columns are calculated from top of Column base to underneath of first floor slab and consequently from top of floor slab to bottom of floor slab above. In case of Columns for flat slabs, flare of column shall be included with column for Measurement.

How to estimate RCC Beams: Beams are estimated from face to face of columns and contain haunches, if any, amid columns and beams. The depth of beams is calculated from bottom of slab to bottom of the beam excluding inverted beam where estimation is made from top of slab to top of beam.

How to estimate RCC Pedestals: Pedestals are estimated from top of Footing to top/ Bottom of plinth beam on the basis of site conditions. If calculated up to bottom of Plinth beam then Ground floor column is calculated from Bottom of plinth beam to bottom of slab. The Height of Pedestal is obtained from levels of footing and plinth beam. The Height should be validated with site also.
