Determine the quantity of shuttering with thumb rule
In this construction article, you will learn some useful tips for working out the quantity of shuttering.
Given below, step-by-step calculation process :-
Determine the shuttering area
The shuttering will be provided to slab. Assume the length and width of the slab is 75 feet and 50 feet. The area will be calculated with the following formula :-
Area = Length x Width
Area = 75 x 50
Area = 3750 ft2
Shuttering type
The type of shuttering will be wooden. The measuring unit is in running feet.
The dimension of the plywood is 8 feet x 4 feet with 12 mm thickness.
To calculate the number of plywood for the above covered area, use the following formula :-
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
= 3750 sft x 0.02 = 75 nos.
Beam Bottom Plates (1.5 inches thickness)
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
= 3750 sft x 0.24
= 900 Rft (running feet)
Wooden Battens (3 inches x 3 inches)
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
= 3750 sft x 0.04
= 1500 Rft (running feet)
Wooden Bellies
The quantities of wooden bellies in slab
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
= 3750 Sft x 0.16 = 600 nos.
The quantities of bottom plates in beam
Beam Bottom Plate Running Feet x Thumb Rule
= 900 x 0.5 = 450 nos.
MS Clamps
Required quantities of clamps
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
= 3750 x 0.08 = 300 nos.
Shuttering Oil
Required quantities of shuttering oils in shuttering
Covered Area x Thumb Rule
3750 x 0.006 = 22.5 litres
In the calculation process, lots of thumb rules are used to provide approximate values of shuttering devoid of any measurement.
To obtain perfect values, it is necessary to measure all the things applicable to shuttering.
