Construction Estimator

 

The pay: The median annual wage of cost estimators was $57,860 in May 2010.

Primary Function: Plan, coordinate and supervise company estimating program providing technical and administrative direction to insure corporate objectives are met.

Typical Duties: Ability to perform all estimating functions accurately. Analyze project for risks with contract, specifications and constructability, and notify management. Read and understand specifications for Front end, our work and subcontractors. Put jobs together and run bid day process. Perform Budget, Conceptual and Hard Bid estimates. Work with team and help prepare and present proposals for new work. Develop unit costs and historical data for actual costs of our firm on jobs past and current. Review and develop costs for labor burden and insurance. Visit jobsites under construction to see what goes on and how it affects pricing. Work with Subcontractors and Suppliers to develop relationships. Good attendance and being punctual is an essential requirement for this position. Assume additional responsibilities as directed by corporate dictate.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience: Accurate, Construction Management at Risk and conceptual estimating experience; must be able to handle pressure and make valid decisions; communication ability; Inquisitive and not afraid to ask questions; Computer literate in Excel for bid day front sheet and Timberline for estimating; Ability to manage people; experience in schools and public buildings ; Degree in Building Construction or Civil Engineering; Background with reputable General Building Contractor; Project sizes from $500,000 - $60,000,000 with average size being $3,000,000 - $20,000,000.
