Brief Overview of Precast Concrete Construction

The perception of precast alias "prefabricated" construction refer to those buildings where the most of the structural components are organized and built in plants which are situated far from the building, and then transmitted to the site for assembly.

The industrial methods are used to fabricate these components on the basis of mass production for developing lots of building economically within quickest possible time.

The construction process for precast construction is based on the following core features:

. The division and specialism of the human workforce.
. The application of automated tools, machinery, and other equipment, in the production of standard, transposable parts and products.

To set up precast construction, the total traditional construction process should be reconstituted for effective coordination amid the design and production planning stage for enhancing and accelerating the construction progression. To attain this, design buildings with a standard configuration in plan and elevation.

Usually, precast building systems are very cost-effective with regard to the customary multifamily residential construction (apartment buildings) in various countries. Please read the UNIDO2 report for getting brief overview on precast systems and their earthquake resistance.

On the basis of the load-bearing structure, precast systems are segregated into the following categories:

. Large-panel systems
. Frame systems
. Slab-column systems with walls
. Mixed systems
