Construction Designers and Engineers are up with their profession in UK

The construction designers and engineers are not among those feared of loosing job in United Kingdom. There are only 23 per cent work forces in UK living with the scare of being pink-slipped in any moment.

A study that conducted among 2000 UK employees divulged that the only 18 per cent of engineers are feeling unsafe of loosing job.

But the workers in the trade of Information Technology, the arts, professional services and general government work have expressed their insecurity.

However, the engineers and construction designers are not the only happy people out there, the professionals from diverse background of finance, wholesale and hospitality showed confidence of their employment prospect too.

Engineers are Working Smarter: Randstad CPE, the specialist recruiter, duly says that engineers are some of the most professionally secure staff in UK. Nevertheless, their further study reveals instead of resting on their laurels, the work passionate technologists are now busy securing their future positions. Engineers, Over a third (37 per cent) are working smart to ensure their job security. The job security is the key factor in professional fulfillment to increase productivity. This is in contrast to 2009 when just 11% of engineers said they were working smarter. Instead, the highest proportion of engineers (39%) in 2009 was protecting their position by training in new skills or qualifications.

The findings of Ranstand shows a steep climb of indicator on construction designers and engineer's job graph, which is much better picture since the nadir of recession in 2009. It was a time in UK when just 47 per cent of engineering professionals were feeling safe with their job prospect. The scenario is much better now. The skills of engineers are in demand.

Owen Goodhead, the managing director of Randstad Construction, Property and Engineering, had an insight of it.

"Job security is good for employees because it leads to higher levels of professional fulfilment. It's good for employers because it leads to higher productivity and lower cases of absenteeism. However, strong levels of job security in an industry need to achieve through positive rather than negative influences. The skills shortage is being felt by the sector including multiple vacancies in many organisations has created less competition for jobs and staffs feel safer in their roles because of a lack of talent knocking on the doors of their employers. However, job security through lack of competition is unsustainable and needs to be addressed for the long-term health of the industry."

The dearth only makes the demand. The reasons that make the construction designers happy about their job security status are dearth of quality construction designers in UK. The research shows that the UK construction design and engineering are lagging behind the required growth to fulfil the long-lasting demand.

The number of qualified engineers working in the UK has fallen from 340,000 in 2008 to 317,000 in 2013, leaving the industry 48,000 engineers short of the 365,000 needed if the sector is to grow enough to support the population of 2050.

The fall in the skilled construction designers and engineers results a few to come to the industry making a big vacuum only for industry. The UK immigration has some strong rule to employ overseas skilled professionals.

Information: In order to help address the problem of an engineering skills shortage in the UK, URS, the global engineering, design and construction group, has announced plans to recruit at least 550 staff in the UK in 2014, including 120 graduate and apprentice positions, while BT has announced it plans to hire 300 top graduates.
