Marbles belong to metamorphic rocks which are developed with the re-crystalization of lime stones or dolomitic lime stones. These are discriminated from lime stone through apparently crystalined nature and nonflaggy stratification. Marbles can be easily polished and utilized in floors and walls.
Marbles are categorized as White Marble and Colored Marble. White Marbles are usually plain white marbleh coarse grains which mostly demonstrate mica particles to be reflected in light. Colors Marbles are also categorized on the basis of their color. These contains the following dissimilar properties.
1. Plain black marble 2. Black zebra marble 3. Green marble 4. Grey marble 5. Brown Marble
Sizes of Marbles: Marbles contains different sizes and can be used for multipurpose. In the following table, various sizes for blocks, slabs and tiles are given :-
The most suitable tolerance toward blocks on thickness, length and width are usually +/-2%.
Tolerance for slabs for length and width are 2% and for thickness it is 3%, whereas that for tiles, for linear dimensions it is 3% and for thickness 1% of tolerance is permissible.
Tests for Marbles: Given below the results of tests which are performed in the laboratory:-
1. Moisture absorption test as per IS 1124 2. Hardness test is prepared as indicated by Mho's scale. 3.Specific gravity test is prepared as indicated by IS 1122.
