Detail Construction Process Of Raft Foundation

This civil engineering article provides detail guidelines on raft foundation construction for a building. Raft foundation should be built up for multistory buildings or building with heavy loads.

First Step: Initially, the surveyor should start the layout for excavation and as soon as survey is completed, then excavation should be accomplished to the desired level with reference to sanctioned shop drawings.

All through excavation all safety measure should be undertaken, the entire area should be barricaded and everybody should utilize PPE at site.

Second Step: When the excavation attains the final phase then the surface should be compacted with plate compacter in case the area is not large and it becomes difficult to apply the roller compacter, but 95% compaction should be guaranteed with compaction test.

Third Step: If the compaction test provides passable results, 75mm or 100 mm blinding concrete is arranged. Blinding concreter should contain the garde 20/20 SRC (Sulphate Resisting concrete).

Blinding concrete is suitable as it offers a firm and flat surface for the reinforcement of raft foundation.

Curing polythene sheets should be arranged instantly after finishing and once the concrete is set, it should be substituted with hessian cloth and should be retained wet unless the surface becomes fully dry.

Once the blinding surface is dried, water proofing of surface should be started based on sanctioned specification.

Fourth Step: After water proofing, exact planning should be taken for the shuttering work, all materials should be arranged on a plate form and steel bars should have been installed according to sanctioned shop drawings. All working space should be clean and orderly so that no accidents occur at construction site.

Once the reinforcement work is finished, the contractor should get approval for it from the supervision consultants in order that the concrete can be poured.
